East meets West cultural dialogue
Inspired by the senior members of the Asian Club at Malden High School, this program is designed to help Asian immigrants better understand and appreciate American culture while retaining their own cultural heritage, so that they can better support their American-born children in a culturally appropriate manner and fully realize their American dreams. Although the program caters to immigrants, the general public is also welcome. this monthly event offers Malden’s Asian immigrants an array of cultural dialogues. Attendees have an opportunity to learn about both Chinese culture as well as American culture. This program is offered in collaboration with the Cambridge Health Alliance, and supported by the generosity of the Adelaide Breed Bayrd Foundation and the City of Malden. Youth Leadership and Mentorship
The same program also supports the youths of the Malden Public School system. It helps both recent immigrants and American-born immigrants to learn about their cultural heritage, as well as to become cultural ambassadors for their parents and younger immigrants in the elementary school. The Youth Leadership and Mentorship program created the program entitled: “I Know English”, which has become so popular that even non-Asian students have taken part.
